Firsthand Cafe: Supplementary Activities
EF2
UNIT 7
Best to worst
Preparation:
none
Procedure: Read the following list to they
students. They each write one job that fits each.
1. A very difficult job.
2. A job that pays a lot.
3. A job that is boring.
4. A job that you need a lot of education to get.
5. A bad job.
6. A job that is exciting.
7. A wonderful job.
8. YOUR dream job.
Then students work in groups of 3-5. They fold a piece of paper
so it is about 3 centimeters (about 1.5 inches) wide and the
entire length of the sheet. The first person call out one job
he or she has written. Any job is OK. They should not go in
1-8 order. On a piece of paper, everyone writes the word. The
top of the paper means “good.” The bottom means
“bad.” They write the word in a position that shows
how they feel about it. Then another student calls out another
job. Students write it to show how they feel about it. They
can NOT say jobs are equal (that’s why the paper is so
narrow – they can’t write two at the same level.).
They continue until they have written at least 10 jobs. Then,
as a group, they compare the order they wrote the jobs in. When
they are differences, they explain their reasons.
