English Firsthand Cafe: Supplementary Activities

EF1 UNIT 8
I’d Like to Invite You!

Preparation: Make a copy of the I’d Like to Invite You! Tasksheet (see below) for each student.

Procedure: Students write a place or event for each item on the tasksheet. When they finish, they work as a whole group. Each student takes out a coin. Show them how to flip the coin. Decide which side is "yes" and which is "no." Each student must invite ten more people to each event or place. The invited student flips a coin to decide whether to accept or reject the invitation. If the coin lands on the yes side, that student accepts. The inviting student writes the person's name next to the item and then changes partners. If the coin lands on the no side, the student should give a reason or make an excuse (I'd like to but I have to work.).

I'd like to invite you!

Invite people to do these things.
When someone says yes, write the person's name.
Then change partners.

When people invite you, flip a coin to decide yes or no.
