English Firsthand Cafe: Supplementary Activities

EF2 UNIT 3

Comparative “line-up.”

Preparation: none

Procedure: Students work in groups of 4-5. They come up with three or four different ways that they could line up that are a kind of comparison. It should be something not visible (not tallest to shortest, for example).

Examples:
Youngest to oldest person.
Person who got up the earliest today to the person who got up the latest.
Person who lives the closest to school to the person who lives the farthest.
Longest to shortest name.
After deciding on several ways, they join another group. They line up. Partners from the other team try to guess. If they are wrong or have no idea, the lined-up team gives a hint (decide if it is a one-word hint or must be pantomimed.). The take turns. If some teams finish before others, have them join different groups and show their “line-ups” again.
